Build Your AI Team with Paperclip
Agentic AI Essentials
Build Your AI Team with Paperclip
Your agents don't need better prompts. They need an org chart.
Welcome. This session is 30 minutes and it is going to move fast - because the tool we are looking at today moves fast. By the end, you will know how to build a coordinated team of AI agents that work toward a single goal while you focus on the work that actually requires you. This is not about making one AI do more. It is about building a team of AIs that divide the work, run in parallel, and report back. That is a different kind of power.
Slide 2 2 minutes
You Have Been Building AI Skills. Now Build an AI Team.
You learned to work with AI.
Now you learn to manage it.
If you have been working through the Agentic AI Essentials series, you have already learned how agents think, how to structure handoffs, and how to build workflows that run without you hovering over them. This session goes one level higher. Instead of one agent doing one job, you are going to build a team - multiple agents, each with a role, a goal, and a budget, all coordinated from a single dashboard. That is the jump from working with AI to leading it.

The Bottleneck Is You
You are not slow.
There is just one of you.
Here is the real constraint in most teams. It is not capability. It is capacity. One person can only do one thing at a time. Dana Reyes at Buddy Bevs is launching BOLT nationally. She has a research task, a copy task, a competitor analysis, and a social media brief - all due this week. She has three people. She needs ten. And she cannot hire fast enough. That is the situation most of you are in. The question is not "how do I work harder?" The question is "how do I build a team that works while I do the part only I can do?"

What Paperclip Actually Does
You give each agent a role.
You set a goal. You set a budget.
Paperclip runs the team.
Paperclip is an open-source orchestration tool - think of it as the operating system for your AI team. You open the dashboard, you create a company, you hire agents. Each agent gets a role - research, copywriting, data analysis, whatever the job requires. You set a goal at the top: "Launch BOLT in three new markets by end of month." Paperclip breaks that down, assigns tasks to the right agents, tracks progress, and makes sure no agent runs over budget. One dashboard. Multiple agents. All moving toward the same goal. And it is already at 31,000 GitHub stars because it works.

Meet Dana's BOLT Team
Research Agent - competitor pricing in three new markets
Copy Agent - launch emails, retail partner decks, social posts
Analytics Agent - repurchase data, segment performance, weekly summary
This is what Dana's Paperclip team looks like right now. She has three agents running in parallel. The research agent is scanning competitor pricing and market entry data in the three cities she is targeting. The copy agent is producing the launch materials she needs - emails to retail partners, a short deck, social posts for the first week. The analytics agent is pulling her existing data and surfacing the numbers she needs to make the case internally. All three are running at the same time. Dana is doing one thing: reviewing the outputs and making decisions. That is what 8x looks like. Not working faster. Working at scale.

Everyone Does This Now
Exercise: Map Your BOLT Team
Three agents. Three roles. One goal.
Write them in the chat.
Everyone does this right now. You have two minutes. I want you to think about Dana's situation - she needs to launch BOLT fast with a small team - and map out three agents you would hire for her in Paperclip. Give each one a role and one sentence on what their job is. Then swap it: what would your own team look like? What three jobs are eating your team's time right now that three parallel agents could run? Write both in the chat. We will look at a few together. There is no wrong answer here - this is the planning work that happens before you open Paperclip. The map comes first. The build comes second.

The Manager's Mindset
You are not the one doing the work.
You are the one making sure the work gets done right.
Here is the shift I want you to make before you close your laptop today. When you build a Paperclip team, your job changes. You are not the researcher, the writer, or the analyst anymore. You are the manager. You set the goal. You define what good looks like. You review the output and decide what ships. That is a leadership role - and it is the role an AI Officer is supposed to play. The agents do the execution. You do the judgment. That is not laziness. That is leverage. And it is exactly what organizations will be looking for as AI becomes half of every workflow.

Your Challenge This Week
Build a three-agent Paperclip team for a real goal you have right now.
Submit: your team map, your goal, and one output from a running agent.
Your challenge is to take what you mapped in this session and build it. Set up Paperclip, create your first company, hire three agents, and give them a real goal - something from your actual work, not a test. Then submit three things to your AI Buddy: your team map showing each agent's role, the goal you set, and a screenshot or copy of one output from a running agent. That last part is the proof. Not "I set it up" - "here is what it produced." Your AI Buddy will grade you on whether your team is built for a real outcome, not just a neat org chart.
Slide 9 2 minutes
What Will You Do Differently?
Start, stop, or continue - pick one.
Before we close. Look at the work you do this week. Is there something you are going to stop doing yourself and hand to a Paperclip agent instead? Is there a recurring team task that three parallel agents could run faster than three parallel people? Or is there something from this session - the org chart thinking, the goal-first approach, the budget discipline - that you want to keep going with? Pick one thing. Write it down. That is the commitment.

Thank you. The challenge is live - your AI Buddy is ready for your submission. If you run into anything setting up Paperclip, bring it to Thursday's AIO Labs session. That is what it is there for. See you in the next session.

Hey! 👋 I've reviewed this session and I'm ready to go deeper with you. Here's what we're covering:
AI Buddy
👥 The paperclip framework — assign roles, not just prompts: Think of AI tools as team members with job descriptions. Each one has a specific workflow, a clear input, and a defined output. That structure is what makes AI reliable.
AI Buddy
🏗️ How to build the team: Identify your three most-repeated workflows, assign an AI role to each, and document the handoff between them. The team scales when every role has a clear brief and someone owns the output.
