ChatGPT now shows product cards with checkout for Shopify and Stripe merchants. Perplexity compares products and prices in real time. Amazon Rufus lets customers shop conversationally inside the Amazon app. Gemini pulls from Google Shopping, maps, and reviews with Google Pay checkout potential. This shift - from AI as research assistant to AI as purchasing agent - is called agentic commerce. It is rolling out now, not in the future.
The trust barrier is real but temporary. Every new commerce model faces it - online credit cards in the 1990s, ride-sharing location access in the 2010s, AI wallets today. Convenience always wins. The opportunity for early movers is the gap between when a platform launches and when it gets crowded. That window is open right now.
