Session Recap

What we covered, what to try this week, and your challenge.

What We Covered

Think about the last time you used AI to answer a question. You got a fast answer. But could you cite it? Could you stake your professional reputation on it? Probably not — and that is the gap this session addresses.

Deep research is not about asking better questions. It is about pointing AI at better data. When you feed AI credible sources — academic papers, industry reports, validated datasets — and give it a structured question, you get something completely different from a quick prompt: cited insights you can actually use.

We walked through the five-step research pattern: ask a tight question, gather sources you trust, read and reflect for contradictions and gaps, pull a thread when something surprises you, and turn the work into clarity you can share. That loop is the difference between content that sounds right and content that is right.

We looked at NotebookLM as the tool that makes this practical. It forces you into best practice — you cannot just search the web and trust whatever comes back. You bring your own sources, and it analyses only what you give it. No hallucinations. Just your document, broken down into summaries, mind maps, audio overviews, and cited outputs you can drop directly into reports or strategy documents.

The leadership point: the people who learn to automate this workflow — find sources, analyse them, produce cited content — will produce dramatically higher-quality work than the people still relying on surface-level AI answers. That is a real competitive edge.

Try This Week

Pick one topic you keep getting asked about at work. Find one real source on it — a journal paper, an industry report, something with a named author or institution. Put it into NotebookLM and generate a mind map.

Then do something with it. Write a short summary. Bring a cited insight to your next team meeting. Draft one paragraph for a report you are working on. The goal is not to do research for its own sake. The goal is to produce something with it.

If you want to go further: upload two or three sources on the same topic and ask NotebookLM to find the contradictions between them. That is where the real insights live.

Your Challenge

Find one credible source on a topic relevant to your work. Upload it to NotebookLM. Generate a mind map or audio overview. Submit your source, your key insight, and one sentence on what it changes about how you think — to your AI Buddy in AIO Labs.

🔍 Stop asking AI for answers — give it sources: Deep research uses NotebookLM to synthesise credible documents instead of generating from training data. The output is cited, not hallucinated.

📋 The five-step workflow: Choose a topic → find a credible source → upload to NotebookLM → create a mind map or audio overview → pull your key insight. The difference from regular AI chat is full traceability.
